The Five Mile Picnic Area in Murray Valley Regional Park is facing an extensive clean up and repair job following sustained flooding, and an area near the boat ramp will be closed from next week.
NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) staff will begin fixing up the popular visitor area from 1 May 2024 with works expected to take around 8 weeks.
While the boat ramp is expected to remain open during this time, the area at the top of the tiers, near the car park, including the main BBQ area has been temporarily fenced off in the interest of visitor safety.
The rest of the visitor area, including the toilets, car park, access to the mountain bike trails and the Dhungala walk will remain open.
Visitors to the area are asked to check NPWS Alerts for up-to-date info on these temporary closures and any unforeseen changes to access.
NPWS apologises to visitors for this unexpected impact, however the floods caused severe erosion and near complete loss of riverbank structures.
Crews are working to repair and reopen the area as soon as it is deemed safe to do so.
