Council is urging residents to stay vigilant and prepared as severe weather rolls across the NSW coast over the coming days.

The NSW State Emergency Service advises we might see stronger winds and heavier rainfall in the coming days, increasing the risk of falling trees and flooding.

Council advises residents to familiarise themselves with emergency procedures and evacuation routes outlined by the NSW SES.

Key tips for staying safe during storms and flooding include:

Create an emergency kit: Prepare a well-stocked emergency kit containing essential items such as food, water, medications, torches, batteries, and important documents. Keep this kit easily accessible in case of evacuation.

Stay informed: Monitor weather forecasts and warnings issued by the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) and NSW SES. Stay tuned to local news channels and radio stations for updates on severe weather conditions and emergency alerts.

Secure loose items: Secure outdoor furniture, garden equipment, and any loose items around your property to prevent them from becoming projectiles during high winds.

Plans evacuation routes: Familiarise yourself with evacuation routes in your area and have a contingency plan in place for safe evacuation if necessary. Keep important contact numbers handy, including emergency services.

Stay clear of flood water: Avoid walking or driving through floodwaters, as they may be deeper or faster moving than they appear. Floodwaters can conceal hazards such as debris, submerged objects, and strong currents.

By staying informed, prepared, and vigilant, we can all contribute to reducing the impact of severe weather events in our community.
