A routine intercept in Keilor East led to police seizing around one kilogram of cocaine on Saturday.
Keilor Downs police were patrolling Slater Parade when they came across a vehicle which flagged for having an active Firearm Prohibition Order about 6pm on 11 May.
Officers intercepted the car and a subsequent search of it located approximately one kilogram of what is alleged to be cocaine, as well as $2450 in cash.
The seized amount has an estimated street value of $300,000.
The driver – a 40-year-old man from Wollert – was arrested and later charged by Brimbank Divisional Response Unit detectives with trafficking a commercial quantity of a drug of dependence.
He appeared before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on Monday and was bailed to appear again on 5 August 2024.
An FPO prevents a person from acquiring, possessing or using a firearm or firearm related items, as well as entering certain premises such as firearms dealerships and shooting ranges.
As the order is linked directly to the person, not a specific location, police can search an FPO subject’s vehicle or property at any time.
