$21 Million For New Homes Across Barkly

NT Government

The Lawler Labor Government is improving housing across the Barkly and investing in local Territory businesses.

The Territory Labor Government has awarded a contract of $6.7 million to Blueprint (NT) and $14.2 million to LA Build for construction of new homes, and upgrades to existing homes across four remote communities in the Barkly region.

Blueprint (NT) will deliver construction works in Ali Curung and Imangara (Murray Downs), to build five new remote public housing homes, extensions to two existing homes; and one new Government Employee Home.

LA Build Pty Ltd will deliver construction works in Canteen Creek and Epenarra (Wutunugurra) to build 12 new remote public housing homes, extensions to six existing homes; one new Government Employee home; and fencing to 25 existing remote public housing homes.

The Lawler Labor Government has delivered almost 500 new and upgraded homes across remote communities in the Barkly region, including works jointly funded with the Australian Government.

Since Territory Labor came into Government in 2016, 72 new and upgraded homes have been delivered to Ali Curung and Imangara, with now 6 new homes set for the community.

While Canteen Creek and Epenarrra have received 12 new and upgraded homes, with 18 new and upgraded homes to begin works.

These works provide local Territory businesses with a pipeline of works over an extended period, build capacity and capability across the construction sector and Aboriginal communities and provide local employment opportunities.

The award of these two tender comes after a historic signing of a joint $4 billion remote housing investment package with the Australian Government and the four Land Councils for the Territory.

The delivery of works includes a local decision making process which means that residents are involved in decisions on how remote homes are designed, built and delivered for their community.

Works are expected to commence in August 2024 with all works expected to be completed in March 2027.
