A man and teen charged over alleged aggravated robbery – Wilcannia

A man and teen will face court following an investigation into an aggravated robbery in the state’s far west last week.

About 4.30am on Wednesday (19 June 2024), a male forced entry into a home on Reid Street, Wilcannia, whilst another stood outside.

The male demanded cash and made a sexual comment to the occupant – a 39-year-old woman. The male left with cash before forcing entry back into the home and punched the woman in the face before fleeing the area on foot.

Officers attached to Barrier Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Following inquiries, about 10am on Friday (21 June 2024), police attended a home in Wilcannia and executed a search warrant.

A 20-year-old man and a 13-year-old teen were arrested and taken to Wilcannia Police Station.

The man was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal, and break and enter house steal value.

The 13-year-old boy was charged with aggravated break and enter dwelling in company steal, break and enter house steal value, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and incite other to do sexual act with them without consent.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Dubbo Local Court via AVL on Saturday (22 June 2024), where he was given conditional bail to reappear at Wilcannia Local Court on Wednesday 17 July 2024.

The teen was refused bail and appeared at a Children’s Court on Saturday (22 June 2024), where he was given conditional bail to appear at the same court on Friday 12 July 2024.
