AEMO report highlights vulnerability of Victoria’s energy system under Labor

Today’s release of the2024 Integrated System Plan (ISP) by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), has laid bare the vulnerabilities in Victoria’s energy system following a decade of mismanagement under the Labor Government.

The report highlights the critical role of gas-powered generation as the retirement of coal fired power stations nears and the grid continues to transition to renewables.

This comes as the Allan Labor Government’s ideological opposition to gas over the last 10 years has prevented critical new supplies being brought online, as AEMO issues a fresh warning for potential gas shortages and blackouts this winter.

Shadow Minister for Energy Affordability and Security, David Davis, said: “This report reflects the vulnerability of Victoria’s energy system following a decade of mismanagement under Labor.

“From AEMO, to energy experts, to the Federal Labor Government – seemingly everyone understands the importance of natural gas in our energy mix, but Premier Jacinta Allan and Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio have missed the message.

“We urgently needs new natural gas supplies to be brought to market or Victorians may face the prospect of cold showers, cold meals, cold homes and even higher energy bills.

“Labor cannot manage money, cannot manage our energy system and Victorians are paying the price.”
