Police have released CCTV footages and are appealing for public assistance as they continue to investigate two break and enter incidents in the Port Stephens area.

Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District established Strike Force Weemala in January this year and are now appealing for assistance from the public about two incidents,

  • About 8am on Monday (15 January 2024), police were called to a service station on Nelson Bay Road, Williamtown, following reports of a break and enter. On arrival, police were told two unknown men allegedly entered the shop and stole an amount of cigarettes – worth about $10,000 – before they left the scene in a silver Subaru SUV. It is believed that the two men allegedly attempted another break and enter in Salt Ash a short time before this incident.

  • About 2.50am on (Saturday 16 March 2024), police were called to a tobacco shop on Myall Road, Tea Gardens, three people entered the store and stole the ATM before leaving in a black Ford ute. A short time later, police located the ute on Tarean Road, Karuah, when they attempted stop the vehicle. When it failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit continued to the intersection of Terean Road and Pacific Highway where it was terminated due to safety issues. Further inquiries revealed that the ute was stolen from an address in Corlette earlier that night. It is believed another dark ute was travelling with the stolen vehicle and police are appealing for information about both vehicles.
