Better Buses For Torquay, Charlemont And Armstrong Creek

VIC Premier

The Allan Labor Government is delivering Armstrong Creek, Charlemont and Torquay residents more frequent, fast and reliable bus services, when a new bus network is introduced in June.

Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams today announced the updated bus network will give locals better access to jobs, education, shops and healthcare.

The new bus network will allow for the number of services to be more than doubled – providing these growth areas improved connections to key locations such as Torquay Beach, Belmont High Street, Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre or Deakin University, as well as Geelong or Marshall stations and the Portarlington Ferry.

The community will be able access an extra 500 weekly bus services, including around four buses an hour along the Surf Coast Highway, with new services between Geelong and Torquay, Marshall Station and Jan Juc and Marshall Station and Torquay.

Links between Torquay, Armstrong Creek and Geelong are also strengthened with a regular and direct service to Moorabool Street, Geelong – with the expanded network also offering increased evening and weekend hours.

The design of the new network follows extensive community consultation and includes the installation of 54 new accessible bus stops, providing easier access for users in wheelchairs and with mobility aids.

The local school bus networks are being improved to service Bellarine Secondary College and St Ignatius College. Oberon High School will also receive more services, with the existing service set to connect to the school.

More than 20,000 bus services have been added to the state’s bus network since the launch of the Labor Government’s Bus Plan in July 2021, adding thousands more services to the network including across regional Victoria.

As stated by Minister for Public and Active Transport Gabrielle Williams

“Across Victoria we are delivering a modern and more efficient bus network so that more people choose to take the bus.”

“The new bus network will provide more bus services, more often, to both existing and new growth areas in Torquay, Charlemont and Armstrong Creek – giving locals and visitors more reasons to leave the car at home.”
