The Tasmanian Government is delivering on its commitment to offer 20 new scholarships to the next generation of school psychologists and speech and language pathologists in Tasmania.
Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said professional support service staff are critical to supporting students’ development and educational outcomes.
“School psychologists and speech and language pathologists play a vital role by helping students to learn and grow, while building wellbeing and resilience,” Minister Palmer said.
“As part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we’re offering scholarships for 10 school psychologists and 10 speech and language pathologists to eligible university students, creating permanent employment pathways for these professionals in Tasmanian Government schools.
“The Tasmanian Liberal Government has committed $500,000 for the new scholarships, bolstering this vital workforce to support our students to thrive.”
Successful applicants will be provided with $25,000 across their scholarship term to contribute towards university course costs.
The 20 scholarships are in addition to nine speech pathology scholarships we announced last year, which will soon be awarded.
Scholarship placements will be offered across Tasmania with a focus on regional areas.
These scholarships show our Government’s strong commitment to boosting speech and language pathology services in schools and Child and Family Learning Centres by offering incentives and capitalising on existing talent markets for graduates from Australian universities.
Eligibility requirements for the scholarships are being finalised and will be available online when applications open on Wednesday, 17 July 2024.
The graduate positions will be advertised on the Tasmanian Government Jobs website, which will include the opportunity to apply for a scholarship.
