Bayside Council marked National Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week with a guided tour through the native bush tucker forest in Sir Joseph Banks Park on Monday 27 May.
This guided tour was very popular with local school children who had the opportunity to learn about our shared histories and engage with our First Nations community.
The guided interactive tour, run by IndigiGrow, provided a hands-on introduction to Australia’s edible plants.
The native bush tucker garden forest covers about 3000 square metres of Sir Joseph Banks Park and is a relatively easy walk along a rustic path.
As well as a Welcome to Country, there was also a workshop on worm farming.
Afterwards everyone enjoyed a yarn and a sausage sizzle provided by Goanna Hut.

National Reconciliation Week (NRW) runs from 27 May to 3 June each year. These dates commemorate two significant milestones in Australia’s reconciliation journey, the successful 1967 referendum and the High Court Mabo decision.
