Cau Supporting Aussie Business

Australia’s biggest cruise company Carnival Australia is spending a record amount on locally sourced food and beverage, providing certainty to farmers and growers across the country.

Carnival Australia spent approximately $250m in the past 12 months sourcing food, beverage and hotel amenities from the best Australian and New Zealand suppliers.

This is a massive increase on the $70m spent in 2019.

“This increase is due to our determination to support local businesses in the regions we visit, by sourcing the freshest and best quality produce. This ensures every meal we serve our guests will be a memorable one,” said Carnival Australia Senior Vice President Peter Little.

According to CLIA data, 1.25m people sailed on a cruise in Australia in 2023, which is more than in 2019. Each ship produces more than 15,000 meals a day for guests and crew, which means our onboard culinary teams are working hard around the clock.

This week Carnival Australia hosted more than 100 suppliers on board P&O’s Pacific Adventure in Sydney, to say thank you for their partnership over the past 12 months.

Carnival Australia has 4 ships operating in Australia and New Zealand all year round, which source nearly 100% of their food and beverages from Australian and NZ suppliers.

“Our economic contribution to the national economy extends far beyond taking our guests on unforgettable holidays at sea. It’s about supporting tourism operators from Hobart to Cairns, from Fremantle to Airlie Beach. And it’s about supporting farmers, truck drivers, pickers, vineyards, and distilleries, in all corners of the country,” said Mr Little.

Carnival Australia sources produce from across Australia, including beef and pineapple from Queensland, chicken and pork from New South Wales farms, lamb from Victoria, onions from South Australia and rockmelon from the Northern Territory.

“Dining onboard our ships is a voyage highlight for our guests, and we say thank you to our suppliers for helping us deliver holiday happiness,” said Mr Little.
