Charges – Domestic violence – Remote MacDonnell region community

Northern Territory Police have arrested a man in relation to a serious domestic violence incident that occurred in a remote MacDonnell region community on Sunday.

At 10.15am, police responded to reports of a woman allegedly being assaulted by a man who is believed to be known to her.

Police responded and commenced investigations.

The 33-year-old male alleged offender was arrested yesterday without incident.

He has since been charged with the following:

  • Sexual intercourse without consent
  • Depravation of liberty
  • Aggravated assault
  • Choking / strangulation
  • Recording intimate images without consent
  • Contravening DVO
  • Armed with an offensive weapon

He has been remanded to appear in Alice Springs Court later today.

The victim was conveyed to Alice Springs Hospital for medical treatment.

Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Chay McArthur said, “This was a prolonged and violent domestic assault, and the behaviour of the alleged offender will not be tolerated in our community”.

“We would like to thank members of the community for providing information that resulted in the arrest of the offender.

“Police urge victims of domestic and family violence to come forward If they are experiencing difficulties. Support services are available, including, but not limited to, 1800RESPECT (1800737732) or Lifeline 131 114.”
