Charges following crime spree in North-Western suburbs

Wyndham Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged three men following a spate of offending in Melbourne’s north-western suburbs.

The charges follow a series of armed robberies, aggravated burglaries, and thefts in Point Cook and Laverton between 19 June and 21 June.

Police will allege the trio attended an address in Point Cook about 5:05pm on 19 June, where they forced entry to the residential property before stealing a number of personal items.

It is believed the trio then attended a residential property in Point Cook, about 5:50pm on 19 June.

Allegedly, the trio stole a blue Ford Falcon from inside a garage while the owner was inside the property. A few hours later, police observed the Ford being driven erratically on Morley Court in Glenroy, before arresting the 22-year-old male driver.

The trio allegedly forced entry to another residential property in Point Cook about 4:15pm on 21 June. It is alleged they stole personal items, before attempting to flee the scene. When the group left the property, they allegedly assaulted a man, stole his phone an fled the scene in a white Mazda BT50.

It is believed the trio also forced entry to a Point Cook address, between 3pm and 4:30pm on 21 June. Investigators have been told the group stole a number of personal items, before fleeing the scene. The trio allegedly used the stolen bank cards a short time later at a petrol station on Duncans Road.

Officers will allege the trio were driving the Mazda along Railway Avenue in Laverton, where they attempted to steal a parked black Range Rover while the owner was in a nearby store.

A 63-year-old woman and an infant were in the backseat when the 22-year-old ma allegedly attempted to steal the vehicle. The man exited the vehicle, before getting back into the Mazda and fleeing the scene. No one was physically injured.

Investigators believe the allegedly stolen plates on the Mazda were stolen from a West Footscray address on 20 June.

A 21-year-old Broadmeadows man has been charged with home invasion, armed robbery, aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary, burglary, two counts of theft of motor vehicle, attempted theft of motor vehicle, four counts of theft, obtain property by deception, intentionally cause injury, make threats to kill and assault with weapon.

A 22-year-old Beveridge man has been charged with home invasion, armed robbery, aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary, two counts of burglary, three counts of theft of motor vehicle, attempted theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle, attempted theft of motor vehicle, four counts of theft, two counts of obtain property by deception, criminal damage, intentionally cause injury, make threats to kill and assault with weapon.

A 22-year-old Brunswick man has been charged with home invasion, armed robbery, aggravated burglary, attempted aggravated burglary, two counts of burglary, three counts of theft of motor vehicle, attempted theft of motor vehicle, theft from motor vehicle, attempted theft of motor vehicle, four counts of theft, two counts of obtain property by deception, criminal damage, intentionally cause injury, make threats to kill and assault with weapon.

They were all remanded to appear before Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on 16 September.

An 18-year-old Broadmeadows woman was released pending further enquiries.
