Northern Territory Police have charged a man with multiple stalking related offences in Darwin.
In March 2024, detectives from Serious Crime began investigations after a woman reported suspicious behaviour from a man who was known to her. This man was arrested and bailed in relation to this offending.
On 17 June 2024, Serious Crime detectives, after receiving further information, examined the woman’s vehicle. The examination located a secreted and hardwired electronic GPS tracker with listening device capabilities and the ability to transmit real time data.
Police attended the 42-year-old man’s residence on Sadgroves Crescent, Winnellie, where a number of unused GPS tracking devices, trail cameras, mobile phones and tablets were seized. Also located were 2 firearms and unsecured ammunition.
The 42-year-old was arrested and charged with:
- Attempt to pervert the course of justice
- Install/use/maintain listening device
- Recklessly endangering serious harm
- Interfere with vehicle
- Possess/use firearm whilst unlicensed
- Fail to meet storage requirements
He was remanded to appear in Darwin Local Court today.
Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Trent Abbott of the Serious Crime Section said, “This was incredibly invasive and traumatising offending from this individual.
“Crime detectives will allege that the device used also has the capability of remotely shutting down a vehicle without the drivers input, something that could have potentially deadly consequences.
“Our investigators are continuing to comb through devices seized from the location to ascertain if there were further victims to this despicable behaviour.”
