Circular Economy Councils Fund open

Sustainability Victoria

$2 million is available on behalf of the Victorian Government, with a third and final funding round open for Victorian councils and Alpine Resorts to support their transition to the circular economy, in a boost for repair, reuse and recycle programs.

Grants are available for impactful projects that can demonstrate diversion of waste, job creation and local or regional solutions to materials that would otherwise go to landfill. All Victorian Councils and Alpine Resorts can apply for grants to develop projects that increase the reuse, repurposing and recycling of materials at local or regional scale, and contribute to jobs and circular economy business. These projects help meet the Victorian Government’s target to divert 80% of waste from landfill sites by 2030.

So far, more than 50 projects across the state have received almost $3.8 million from the Circular Economy Councils Fund, including a food organics collection service in high rise buildings in Melbourne’s CBD, mattress recycling for Swan Hill, Bayside roving repair events and a local tool library for Wyndham residents. These projects are estimated to have prevented around 55,000 tonnes of waste going to landfill and created 60 jobs.
