Two men were winched to safety after becoming stuck on a cliff face at Second Valley this afternoon.
The alarm was raised about 7.30pm on Tuesday 1 January after the two men, aged 28 and 31, became stuck on a cliff face about 200 metres west of the Second Valley jetty. They had been taking photographs in the area and climbing up the cliff face when they got into trouble and discovered they couldn’t climb up or down.
They rang the local store who contacted emergency services.
Police, fire, ambulance and SES crews attended and the police helicopter (PolAir) was called in to assist.
The two men were winched to safety. They were checked over by paramedics at the scene, but did not require hospital treatment.
Another couple was spotted in the area on rocks by the helicopter crew and a woman was winched to safety, while the man managed to walk himself out.
Police urge anyone who feels they may need assistance or to be rescued to contact emergency services sooner rather than later. Rescue operations may become more dangerous with fading light and changing conditions.
