The recent HOPE Community Day and Volunteer Expo celebrated the essence of community spirit and volunteerism on Saturday 25 May.
Hosted by the Seymour Community Recovery Committee with support from Mind Australia, the event saw 17 local organisations providing information on local volunteering opportunities.
More than 100 community members attended the event, showcasing Seymour’s commitment to fostering a caring and supportive environment.
The atmosphere was lively, with Seymour FM broadcasting live from the site and conducting interviews with various organisations, bringing the vibrant spirit of the day to the broader community.
Families and individuals alike enjoyed a fun-filled day, highlighted by children’s activities led by Our Place’s Amanda McLean. The little ones were kept entertained with face painting, a jumping castle, inflatables, and a sausage sizzle, making it a delightful day out for everyone.
Mitchell Shire Mayor Councillor Louise Bannister said seeing the community come together in such a meaningful way was heartwarming.
“Volunteering is about making a positive change and supporting one another, and today’s turnout and enthusiasm showed just how much Seymour values that ethos,” she said.
“It was a fantastic opportunity for residents to learn how they can contribute to and support these invaluable groups.
“In an increasingly busy and fast paced world, finding individuals able to commit their time can be challenging, yet despite these hurdles our community continues to thrive thanks to the unwavering commitment and pride in our long-term volunteers.
“From the community’s heart-warming endeavours in emergency response, education and healthcare to the tireless work in environmental conservation and social justice, there truly is something for everyone to contribute to locally.”
