Consultation Starts For North West Support School

Jo Palmer, Minister for Education

A month-long school and community consultation on a new site for the North West Support School, Devonport campus has begun.

Minister for Education, Jo Palmer, said the consultation is part of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s $62.15 million commitment to redevelop the North West Support School.

“Our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future includes a new Devonport campus on a new site and upgrades to the Burnie campus, including a new hydrotherapy pool,” Minister Palmer said.

“Two potential sites have been identified – one at Devonport and the other at Spreyton. Both sites are in close proximity to existing government schools, which will enable positive connections with the North West Support School.

“We are now seeking feedback from the school and broader community on the two potential sites, with all feedback received through the consultation process to be made publicly available.

“To help us gather as much feedback as possible, senior departmental officers will also be available for one-on-one family discussions during the consultation period.

“I encourage Tasmanians to have their say on their preferred option, with all feedback taken into consideration as part of the broader decision-making process.”

In 2021, the Tasmanian Government committed an initial $17.15 million for North West Support School and as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we have bolstered this with an additional $45 million, taking the total project budget to $62.5 million.
