Council has confirmed its support for the city’s 2024 Supercar event.
Mayor Troy Thompson said Council will progress future agreement negotiations post the 2024 event.
“Council has made the decision to support the 2024 NTI Townsville 500 to ensure we are maximising the benefit to the community.
“There is no doubt the Supercars provide tens of millions of dollars into the local economy, but this must be weighed against the cost of supporting these big events and the return on investment for our ratepayers,” Mayor Thompson said.
Being able to hold major events in Townsville is huge and it helps to support future industries, further enhances our world-class liveability, and helps cement Townsville as a destination that embraces the arts, sports, events and recreational activities.
Tickets for the 2024 event are already in demand and on sale via the 2024 NTI Townsville 500 website and Council is working in close partnership with event organisers to deliver another outstanding event for Townsville.
