Creating Space For Men’s Mental Health And Wellbeing

Let's Talk - Panel.jpg

On Thursday 20 June, Council hosted a discussion with the local community in Yea about a range of issues affecting boys and men, including mental health, relationships, the pressure to ‘provide’, traditional ideas of masculinity and how to respectfully pull up a loved one when they’re out of line.

Over 30 people attended the event, where they heard from a panel of experts and local ‘blokes’ about their thoughts on men’s issues, particularly the issues surrounding gendered violence, and how we can create safer and more resilient communities, have tougher conversations and implement strategies to support the men in our lives.

Keynote speaker Tarang Chawla delivered a powerful message and shared his own personal experiences with attendees.

We’d like to thank everyone who attended the event, as well as our panel members, for taking the time to be involved in this important discussion.

Council is planning more events and opportunities for men and the broader community to come together and talk, with the aim of creating a community free from violence.

Murrindindi Shire Council is committed to prevention of all forms of violence, including family violence and gender-based violence. Murrindindi and Mitchell Shire Council’s have collaborated to develop a Community Resource Guide to Family Violence to help people navigate conversations about family violence.
