Creatively Mapping Sandringham Village

We’ve installed a creative new landmark in the heart of Sandringham Village. The 2.5m wayfinding “Welcome Mosaic” greets commuters in front of the Sandringham train station and is created in the traditional smaller tesserae style (a mosaic style where small pieces of stone, glass, ceramic, or other hard material are cut into regular shapes and pieced together to create an image).

Supported by the Sandy Street Art Project and Sandringham Traders Association, the installation reflects a colourful, artistic map of Sandringham Village and the local foreshore.

Created by local artist Fabian Scaunich, Fabian is a graduate of Italy’s world-renowned Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli. Fabian has also created local mosaic works on Hampton Street and in the Stonnington and Kingston municipalities..
