Day 8 – Christmas Road Safety Campaign (phase 2)

Day eight of the Christmas Road Safety Campaign (phase 2) tragically saw three lives lost on Queensland roads in separate incidents in Booubyian, Noosa North Shore and Woolloongabba.

There were a total of 49 drivers charged with drink driving, five of these were over three times the legal limit, one who was over four times the legal limit and another was five times the legal limit in Queensland.

The seven returned readings of 0.250% at Moranbah, 0.228% at Waterford West, 0.163% at Emerald, 0.168% at Haigslea, 0.170% at Kalkadoon, 0.167% at Tingalpa, 0.156% at Coopers Plains and 0.153% at Southport.

Fifty-four drivers also returned positive roadside drug testing results.

Seventeen people were injured in traffic crashes across the state on day eight with police also detecting more than 2,800 speeding motorists.

Thirty-one were caught out not wearing a seatbelt and another nineteen distracted drivers potentially did not see their fine coming wilst on their mobile phones in a total of one thousand and sixty-six traffic infringement notices issued yesterday.

Dangerous speeds were also detected by police on day eight – 143kms / 100km zone on Bruce Highway, Raglan and a 104kms / 60km zone on the Brisbane Valley Highway at Blacksoil.

Police continue to target high risk road users as New Years Eve celebrations continue, so please consider your plan B.

Remember – the only way to get onto the ‘fatal five’ list is to be a driving behaviour that is known to kill. SPEED – kills; FATIGUE – kills; IMPAIRED DRIVING – kills; FAIL TO WEAR SEATBELT – kills; DISTRACTION/INATTENTION – kills.
