Police are investigating the circumstances following a collision and death of a man in Craigieburn this morning.
Officers were called to reports a car collied with two other vehicles at the intersection of Craigieburn Road and Waterview Boulevard about 6.10am.
Police were told the male driver, who is yet to be formally identified, ran from the scene.
He was arrested by a member of the public before police arrived, and then taken into custody.
The man became unresponsive during the incident.
He was treated by paramedics but was pronounced deceased at the scene.
No one else was injured during the collision.
Detectives will investigate the incident, with oversight by Professional Standards Command which is standard practice when a person dies while in police custody.
