The Albanese Government continues to deliver high-priority local transport and community infrastructure projects across South-Western Sydney – with millions in funding increases kickstarting a pipeline of new work.
Federal Minister for Local Government, Kristy McBain MP, was in Werriwa today with Anne Stanley MP, highlighting the significant impact this funding boost will have.
To improve road safety across Werriwa, Liverpool City Council will receive $12.5 million over the next five years under the Roads to Recovery (RTR) program – a boost of $5.4 million thanks to the Albanese Labor Government.
Projects currently being delivered under RTR include surface, gutter and kerb improvements along Gabo Crescent at Sadlier ($360,000), and resurfacing of Hill Road at Lurnea ($404,000) – both fully funded by the Albanese Government.
Over $2.2 million is being delivered to Liverpool City Council under Phase 4 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) program, building on over $11.2 million committed under Phases 1-3.
Projects supported to date include improvements to Pye Hill Reserve Cecil Hills ($1.1 million – fully funded by the Australian Government).
Planning is underway on the reconstruction of Lyn Parade Road at Prestons ($1.4 million), and resurfacing of Gurner Avenue at Austral ($825,000) – again, fully funded by the Albanese Government and supporting residents of the Liverpool Council area.
This is on top of over $28 million in federal funding provided to Liverpool City Council under the Local Roads Package, along with $1.1 million for five local road safety projects across Liverpool City Council under the Road Black Spot Program.
At the 2022 Election, $6 million was committed towards the Middleton Drive Extension – M7 Underpass, connecting Middleton Drive in Middleton Grange to Aviation Road at Elizabeth Hills, providing improved community access and efficiency in the area.
This project is currently undergoing design work and environmental review, with construction to commence mid-2025.
Liverpool City Council has already received over $10.5 million in untied Financial Assistance (FA) Grant funding this financial year – significantly boosting their capacity to ensure local infrastructure is fit-for-purpose, and to deliver a range of projects that will boost liveability in Werriwa.
Nationally, the Albanese Government is delivering significant funding increases to support local councils progress priority projects.
The Roads to Recovery program is progressively increasing from $500 million to $1 billion per year, the Road Black Spot Program is increasing from $110 million to $150 million per year, and a new $200 million Safer Local Roads and Infrastructure Program will soon roll out.
