Footscray High School Students Enjoy New Learning Spaces

VIC Premier

Footscray High School’s senior students are now enjoying their very own campus, complete with state-of-the-art learning facilities – thanks to the Allan Labor Government.

Premier Jacinta Allan, Minister for Education Ben Carroll and Member for Footscray Katie Hall today officially opened the Kinnear Street campus for year 10 to 12 students – the fourth and final stage of the $75 million redevelopment of Footscray High School – which has transformed education in the inner west.

The four-stage project has delivered the new Kinnear campus on the site that formerly housed Footscray City College, the new Pilgrim campus and a multimillion-dollar overhaul of the Barkly campus. Both the Pilgrim and Barkly campuses are for junior-level students.

The $25 million Kinnear campus upgrade was completed earlier this year. It now offers flexible learning spaces, a revitalised library and reconfigured classrooms tailored for learning for senior year levels.

In addition to its new learning spaces, the Kinnear campus also offers a unique farm setting, where students can build a connection with nature and learn how to grow their own vegetables for the school canteen.

The tri-campus Footscray High School is part of the Footscray Learning Precinct, including Footscray Primary School, Footscray City Primary School and the Billy Button integrated early learning centre.

Since 2014, the Labor Government has invested $14.9 billion in building new schools and upgrading more than 1,940 schools.

This investment will ensure every child has access to modern learning spaces to get a great education, no matter where they live.

As stated by Premier Jacinta Allan

“We have completely transformed Footscray High School’s three campuses to give students in the inner west the world-class learning spaces they deserve, close to home.”

As stated by Minister for Education Ben Carroll

“This school is a key component of the Footscray Learning Precinct, which is giving students from the early years right through to VCE – the best possible education that has been tailored to the local community.”

As stated by Member for Footscray Katie Hall

“Footscray High is a creative and innovative local school for the families of the inner west. From horticulture to music, community STEAM or rowing at Footscray Park – students can discover their passion for learning in a beautiful environment. I’m so proud we have delivered this incredible upgrade at Kinnear.”
