Round One of Rockhampton Regional Council’s 2024/25 Community Assistance Program is now open with community groups and organisations invited to submit their applications before Monday 8 July 2024.

Deputy Mayor and Communities and Heritage Councillor Drew Wickerson said the Community Assistance Program is open to not-for-profit community-based organisations who are planning an initiative or holding an event in the next 12 months.

“This program continues to play a key role in boosting our local community by helping clubs and groups get their events off the ground,” Cr Wickerson said.

“Now in its 23rd year, the funding program focuses on supporting events, projects, and initiatives that benefit the entire community, and we are proud to see the continued success of it with each round we announce.

“That’s why we are encouraging other local groups and organisations who have events planned in the coming months to apply.”

Extreme Trampoline CQ was one of 30 local community events and programs to receive a share in more than $109,000 in Round Two of 2023/24 CAP funding.

Club Secretary Kerry Smyth said receiving $1,000 towards their Winter Classic event this weekend was crucial in the development of younger athletes in the sport.

“This is an annual event we hold for kids in levels one to four that focuses on providing development opportunities,” Ms Smyth said.

“The Winter Classic is specifically designed for them, so we can help the younger competitors prepare for competition through experience.

“It is about teaching our younger generation how to compete so they can learn how to develop their skills and abilities, but also cope with the pressure and nerves that can come with competing.

“It also allows our competitors in the higher levels to practice their routines ahead of other competitions later in the year.”

Ms Smyth said funding from Council was vital to the club so they could continue to host these events throughout the year, which are open to competitors throughout the Central Queensland region.

“Thanks to the grant from Council, it takes a fair bit of pressure off the club to cover all of the costs associated with holding these events,” Ms Smyth said.

“It gives us a little more room to update equipment as needed. We are a volunteer run group, so this funding is so appreciated.”

In its 2023/24 budget, Council invested a total of $298,000 across the Community Assistance Program. This supports year-round community development grants, regional and local events, and five major multiyear events held throughout the year.
