Grant recipients announced for Saving Native Species Program

61 projects will share in $24 million funding to better protect populations of 73 threatened plants and animals prioritised in our Threatened Species Action Plan.

The priority species grant opportunity under the Saving Native Species program was launched on 27 July 2023 and closed on 7 September 2023. We received 261 applications seeking more than $96 million in grant funding.

The grants support the delivery of the Saving Native Species Program which provides $224.5 million over four years to support the recovery of our unique plants and animals.

The successful recipients will assist 73 priority species and involve on-ground activities including:

  • fire management
  • predator control
  • habitat restoration
  • seed collection and propagation, translocation
  • surveys
  • monitoring
  • education.

Many of these projects will also benefit other threatened species that share the same habitat.
