Grants Now Available To Recognise Volunteers

  • Thank a Volunteer Day Grants Program now open for applications
  • Community organisations and local governments are invited to apply
  • Grants of up to $1,000 are available to support activities that celebrate volunteers

The Cook Government is calling for community organisations and local government authorities to apply for Thank a Volunteer Day Grants, to celebrate the contribution of volunteers within the community and highlight International Volunteer Day.

Grants of up to $1,000 are available for the purpose of holding events or activities to mark International Volunteer Day, which is held on 5 December each year.

The United Nations designated 5 December as International Volunteer Day and in Western Australia it is known as Thank a Volunteer Day.

In 2023, 72 grants were awarded to organisations so they could celebrate and acknowledge their volunteers.

Thank a Volunteer Day Grants can be used to host events and activities between Monday, 2 December to Sunday, 8 December 2024 in regional and metropolitan areas.

Applications for Thank a Volunteer Day Grants open today and close on Thursday, 11 July 2024.

Quote attributed to Volunteering Minister Don Punch:

“Volunteers provide an essential contribution to our communities across the State.

“While the volunteers who provide essential services to our community don’t do so for recognition, it’s important to acknowledge what a huge positive difference they make.

“Holding a Thank a Volunteer Day event is one of many ways that organisations can say ‘thank you’ to those selflessly donating their time and making our communities better places.

“I encourage local communities to collaborate together in recognition of the range and diversity of volunteering accomplished throughout Western Australia.”
