Residents, community and visitors have an opportunity to help shape the master plan for, arguably, the City of Swan’s most iconic attraction, Bells Rapids.
The master plan, which aims to identify ways to improve the experience of visitors and protect the ecological and cultural values of the site, is now open for community feedback.
City of Swan Chief Executive Officer Jeremy Edwards said the master plan would ensure Bells Rapids’ unique natural environment, rich Aboriginal and European heritage as well as its landscape characteristics is effectively managed and preserved.
“This past winter, most of Perth enjoyed visiting this natural asset, and we want to ensure future generations have that same opportunity,” he said.
As a popular destination for recreational activities such as sightseeing, picnicking, bushwalking and kayaking, Jeremy said he strongly encouraged everyone who regularly uses Bells Rapids to have their say.
“The survey results will help us better understand how people engage with the site, as well as give us ideas on potential improvements we could undertake to the area’s bushland conservation, recreational opportunities and supporting facilities.”
The City is also working in consultation with the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) and the Traditional Custodians to acknowledge the rich Aboriginal and European history of the area and improve environmental condition values.

The master plan has received Riverbank funding from DBCA of $38,525 and matched funding from the City of Swan.
