Illicit Substance Seizures – Northen Territory

Northern Territory Police Dog Operations Unit have executed several successful illegal substance seizures across the Territory.

Last week, Alice Springs Dog Operations Unit (DOU) together with Kulgera and Yulara police intercepted 3 cars heading north along the Stuart Highway into the NT towards Alice Springs with commercial quantities of illegal substance. Drug Dogs Yeva and Callen identified the following:

• 43kgs of Kava

• 25,800 Cigarettes

• 490 pouches of tobacco

• 310 vapes

Additionally, one of the vehicle occupants had 3 warrants for prolific domestic violence offences.

In the Top End, Groote DOU in collaboration with Gapiwiak police, identified and seized 12 ounces of cannabis and $11,000 in cash.

Earlier this week, DOU stopped a suspicious vehicle and Drug Dog Rafa assisted in the search and located the following illegal items:

• 1g cocaine

• 1g methamphetamines

• 5g cannabis

• Gel blaster painted to appear authentic

In a separate incident Drug Dog Rafa and handler Warfield were called out to assist Strike Force Trident with a search warrant and located and seized cash, 200g of cannabis and 2 gel blaster firearms.

Senior Sergeant Meacham King said “Our commitment to combatting illegal substance entering our communities is unwavering.

“We know the detrimental impacts illicit drugs have on our communities, so we will continue to work in lockstep with local police to disrupt the flow on to our streets.

“If you bring illicit substance into the Territory the Dog Operations Unit will be working closely with all units of the NT Police and other agencies to identify you, seize everything involved in criminal activity and put you before the courts.”
