Increased supply of affordable residential land in Albany provides more housing options

  • Stage 3 Clydesdale Park lots released to market
  • Five social housing lots incorporated into the release
  • Affordable housing options priced from $125,000
  • Construction underway for a further 19 homesites at Oyster Harbour

Albany’s housing options are set to expand this week with the latest land release at Clydesdale Park.

In response to increasing demand for residential land the State Government’s development agency, DevelopmentWA, has released 36 homesites, including five social housing lots.

Priced from $125,000 and sized from 368sqm up to 563sqm, the lots are suitable for first home buyers, families, and individuals alike.

Further bolstering residential land options in town will be the upcoming release of Stage 8B of Oyster Harbour, with construction progressing well on the 19 homesites, including two social housing lots.

Set to be released to market in the coming months, the Oyster Harbour stage release will not only increase land supply but generate local employment opportunities through the engagement of local contractor Nigel Palmer Earthmoving.

This follows the launch and sale of six architecturally designed dual-key access townhouses, named Duettes, at Albany’s Middleton Beach. Released in late 2023 the homes are an innovative new product for the Great Southern and were sold within two months, demonstrating the demand for medium-density living in the regions.

Interested purchasers for Clydesdale Park and Oyster Harbour homesites are encouraged to visit developmentwa.com.au for more information or to register their interest.

As stated by Lands Minister John Carey:

“We are committed to delivering a range of homesite options to Albany and supporting low to medium income households achieving home ownership through affordable prices, flexible build times, and low maintenance lots.

“Increasing the availability of social housing lots in the Great Southern region will provide positive outcomes for our community members requiring housing assistance and contribute to the reduction of homelessness.

“By investing in innovative built-form projects we are responding to the evolving preferences of buyers and ensuring a diverse range of housing options in Albany.”

Comments attributed to Albany MLA Rebecca Stephens:

“This is exciting news for Albany and will facilitate additional housing options for families or singles seeking entry-level homes near the town centre, close to amenities.

“Importantly, the Clydesdale Park and Oster Harbour projects will also boost availability of social housing to support our community’s most vulnerable.”
