The largest rural health event in Australia, the 17th National Rural Health Conference, will be held 16-18 September 2024 at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre. Hosted by the National Rural Health Alliance and themed ‘Inspire, Imagine and Innovate,’ this event will bring together people from across the country and across all rural health disciplines face-to-face.
“The Alliance is pleased to announce the program for the 17th National Rural Health Conference,” said Alliance Chairperson Nicole O’Reilly. “It is packed full of innovative keynote speakers, more than 200 inspiring concurrent sessions and an imaginative arts and health stream,” said the Alliance Chairperson Nicole O’Reilly.
“Delegates will be spoiled for choice to hear from experts showcasing the latest innovations in rural workforce, education, aged care, mental health, disaster planning, infections and allergies, primary care, digital and telehealth and much more. The concurrent streams highlight the diversity of rural health care across Australia,” Ms O’Reilly added.
The Hon Emma McBride, Assistant Minister for Rural and Regional Health will welcome delegates while opening keynote speaker Yemi Penn, global thought leader, is set to ignite their ‘Rebellious Curiosity’. Timmy Duggan OAM, the founder and director of Hoops 4 Health, will inspire with his passion for basketball and leading-edge trauma-informed neuroscience. Dr Sonia Henry, who is a champion for remote medicine, will speak about health equity for rural and First Nations people while Grant Dusting, social researcher and the Director of Strategy at McCrindle, will highlight the latest rural workforce research, talk about how to respond strategically to current and future trends and what organisations should be thinking about when it comes to Generations Z and Alpha in the workforce.
The international keynote speaker, April Kyle, President and CEO of the Southcentral Foundation (SCF) in Alaska will open the second day’s proceedings. April will engage audiences with the story of Southcentral Foundation’s Nuka System of Care, a customer-owned system that provides health care and related services for approximately 65,000 Alaska Native and American Indian people.
The exhibition hall will host more than 80 exhibitors as well as the poster display. The ever-popular Arts & Health stream will be back, bigger than ever this year, showcasing incredible Western Australian artists and providing hands-on entertainment.
