Investigation commenced following armed robbery of pub in Belfield

An investigation is underway into the armed robbery of a pub in Sydney’s south-west overnight.

Just after 12.10am today (Friday 11 January 2019), police responded to reports of an armed robbery at a licensed premises on Burwood Road, Belfield.

Police were told two masked men smashed a glass door and entered the pub, before threatening staff and patrons with a firearm, demanding cash.

The men took cash and fled the scene on foot.

Officers from Campsie Police Area Command, with the assistance of the Dog Unit, conducted an extensive search of the area, but the men were not located.

During the robbery, one of the men assaulted a staff member and a patron with a pool cue, who both suffered minor injuries.

A crime scene was established and detectives from the Robbery and Serious Crime Squad are investigating the robbery under Strike Force Gradger.

Investigators are urging anyone who may have seen the men after they ran from the hotel – or who saw something suspicious between midnight and 1am – to contact local police.

Both men were described as being of solid build and wearing dark clothes. One man was about 168cm tall, while the other man was more than 185cm tall.

They were last seen running toward Linda Street and are believed to have run south into Omaha Street.
