Jetstar celebrates one year of flying from Australia to Rarotonga by dropping sale fares from just $229^

Jetstar has been flying from Sydney to Rarotonga for one year and to mark the first anniversary of its low-cost flights, the airline is offering discounted fares from just $229^ one-way at jetstar.com.

Jetstar is currently the only airline operating direct flights between Australia and Rarotonga – the largest of the Cook Islands – using its growing fleet of state-of-the-art Airbus A321neo LR aircraft.

The low-cost carrier’s inaugural flight on 29 June 2023 made history by becoming the first non-stop service between Australia and the Cook Islands by an Australian airline since Ansett in the early 1990s.

With its clear blue waters, white sand beaches and friendly locals, Rarotonga has quickly grown in popularity with Australians. In its first year, Jetstar has carried approximately 50,000 customers between Sydney and Rarotonga.

Local tourism data shows five of the first 10 months of Jetstar’s new service (July 2023 – April 2024) set records for the number of visitors from Australia, with 2000 more visitors arriving each month.

To help more Australians discover this Pacific island paradise, Jetstar is having a Rarotonga Sale with fares from just $229^ one way. Travel dates vary but include late January to late May 2025.

The sale ends at 11.59pm AEST on Saturday 6 July 2024, unless sold out prior. Fares and full conditions are available at Jetstar.com.

Jetstar’s Executive Manager, Customer, Jenn Armor said the route has been popular in its first year.

“Strong demand after we launched quickly saw us increase from three to up to four flights a week between Sydney and Rarotonga.

“In our first year, we have carried close to 50,000 customers between Sydney and Rarotonga and that number will only grow as more Australians discover the Cook Islands.

“It’s hard not to fall in love with the Cook Island’s white sand beaches, sparking blue waters, warm weather and friendly locals.

“I would like to again thank the Cook Islands Government for their ongoing support of the route.”

GM Australasia Cook Islands Tourism, Graeme West said:

“Having Jetstar flying four direct flights per week from Sydney is a game changer for the Cook Islands.

“Based on the first five months of this year, and forward bookings, we expect calendar year 2024 to be 15 per cent higher than the previous best year ever from Australia.”
