Works have commenced at the Lorne Transfer Station to upgrade the site to make it more user friendly, improve the traffic flow for locals and visitors and increase the resource recovery options.
These works will include:
- Increasing the number of bulk bins from three to six, with shelter for unloading areas.
- The green waste drop off area will be sealed with separate concrete bays for green waste and mixed masonry waste.
- Road realignment and reconstruction.
- Replacing fencing, gates and signage.
- Reconfiguration and upgrade of existing storage sheds.
- Improved site security.
- A new gatehouse with increased safety for staff.
“This project will be fantastic for locals and tourists, with better site layout allowing for traffic to move more easily through the site,” Surf Coast Shire Cr Gary Allen said.
“These upgrades will also allow for more recycling on site, saving more waste from landfill and saving locals having to drive to Anglesea to dispose of items properly,” he said.
These works were made possible through a grant of $250,000 from Sustainability Victoria to construct the new transfer bays.
Works have been planned to ensure minimal disruption for customers. But please be mindful of the changed traffic flows and follow the signs.
Works are expected to be completed by end of July 2024.
