Major redevelopment at Derby District High School on track

  • Part of a major redevelopment with an investment of approximately $28 million
  • Student services, staffroom area and canteen so far completed

A number of new facilities at Derby District High School have been completed as part of a major redevelopment to improve the school’s infrastructure.

Education Minister Dr Tony Buti was at the school today to view the progress of the $28 million redevelopment which includes the demolition of two old classroom blocks that are being replaced with contemporary teaching buildings.

A teaching block with four general learning areas and toilets, new student services and staffroom block, and canteen have so far been completed. The old canteen will be demolished.

Currently under construction is a second teaching block with five general learning areas, inclusive education area and STEM and ICT rooms as well as a toilet, changeroom and shower area. There will also be an upgrade to the administration, shade shelters and landscaping.

The education facilities are designed to provide greater flexibility and enable staff to deliver diverse programs that meet the learning needs of students.

The project is part of the WA Labor Government’s record $4.4 billion investment in new and improved school infrastructure across the State.

As stated by Education Minister Dr Tony Buti:

“I’m pleased the construction works at Derby District High School are progressing well and that a number of impressive new facilities have now been completed.

“We are committed to ensuring all students are learning in the best facilities now and in years to come.”

As stated by Kimberley MLA Divina D’Anna:

“It is terrific to see the transformation happening at this school.

“Derby District High School was first opened in 1960 and these upgrades will provide a welcoming and inclusive environment for local families and the school community.”
