Man charged after officers injured following pursuit – Tamworth

A man will face court charged after officers were injured following a pursuit in the state’s north.

About 10.20am on Tuesday 4 (June 2024), police attached to Oxley Police District attempted to stop a white Holden Commodore on Petra Avenue, Tamworth, following reports the car was allegedly used in an aggravated break-in earlier that morning in Calala, about 8km south of Tamworth.

When it failed to stop as directed, a pursuit was initiated. A short time later the Commodore crashed into a parked car on Warral Road, the driver continued before he came to a stop at the intersection of Warral and Mcgregor Street.

As officers approached the driver, the car allegedly reversed into one officer, then driven forward hitting another.

Shortly after, the driver was arrested and was taken to Tamworth Hospital for treatment of injuries.

During a search of the man and car, police located and seized cannabis, unauthorised prescription medication, and a crystalised substance believed to be methylamphetamine.

Three injured officers were treated on scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before they were taken to Tamworth Hospital in a stable condition.

Checks reveal the Commodore was stolen from a home on Burilla Street, Tamworth, on Tuesday (4 June 2024).
