Man charged over alleged drug and firearms offences – Lake Macquarie

A man will face court today charged over further alleged drug and firearms offences following an investigation by Lake Macquarie Police.

In April 2024, investigators from the Lake Macquarie Proactive Crime Team commenced an investigation into an alleged stealing incident.

Following an investigation, police attended a property on Second Street, Boolaroo, on Wednesday 24 April 2024.

Police searched a man at the scene and allegedly located and seized an amount of buprenorphine.

A subsequent search of a property on McLaughlin Street, Argenton, was also conducted, with police allegedly located and seized a firearm and ammunition.

The 36-year-old man was taken to Toronto Police Station where he was charged with possess prescribed restricted substance, goods in personal custody suspected being stolen, possess shortened firearm without authority, possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm, larceny, dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception, and supply, acquire or possess defaced firearm part.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Thursday 25 April 2024 where he was granted strict conditional bail.

Following further inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a storage unit in Mayfield about 11am yesterday (Tuesday 30 April 2024).

During the search, police allegedly located and seized a second firearm and ammunition.

About 4.50pm yesterday (Tuesday 30 April 2024), police arrested the 36-year-old man at Toronto Police Station.

There he was charged with two counts of possess ammunition without holding licence/permit/authority, supply prohibited drug, possess prohibited drug, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, possess shortened firearm without authority, and not keep firearm safely – prohibited firearm.

He was refused bail to appear before Toronto Local Court today (Wednesday 1 May 2024).
