The Federal Labor Government needs to strengthen good-faith negotiation talks after this week’s challenging housing negotiations, which have so far delivered little for Tasmania.
Premier Jeremy Rockliff said at a time when the Tasmanian Government is investing more than ever into much-needed housing supply, the Federal Government needs to reach in and do more as we progress to signing the agreement by 31 May.
“Despite significant feedback from states, the Federal Government has reduced social housing funding to Tasmania as a result of the current National Agreement on Social Housing and Homelessness.
“While there was a welcome increase to homelessness support this has come at the expense of social housing funding, ultimately doing little to support the broader housing needs of Tasmanians.
“The Tasmanian Government will always stand up for Tasmanians, and we will continue to seek to improve the deal on offer from the Federal Labor Government.
“Unfortunately, the style of negotiation used has not delivered the best outcomes possible for the states and their constituents.
“We expect better faith negotiations with the Federal Labor Government for our health and education funding agreements.
“We will continue to work in good faith to finalise the Housing Agreement in coming weeks and will continue our record investment into housing in Tasmania.”
