Starting off in the south-east, though, this cold front will dive away to the south-east and mostly disintegrate. So just be left with a few showers into the afternoon across far south-eastern parts of the country. Showers may pick up, though, across parts of the New South Wales ranges and with south-easterly winds continuing across northern Australia, we are expecting showers to persist across the tropics of Far North Queensland as well as the Top End.
A few showers also for the south-west of WA, as a trough and cold front moves through the Bight that will approach the south-eastern states later in the day. Northerly winds will again pick up ahead of a band of rain to push through Tasmania, as well as Victoria on Wednesday night and moving into Thursday. So now, state by state look.
Starting off with Queensland. Patchy morning fog in the east that will lift to a mostly sunny day, but with south-easterly winds on the coast, we will see a few showers persisting across the northern tropics, including around the Cairns area. South-easterly winds will swing around to become more northerly across western parts of Queensland.
That will mean temperatures start to rise, reaching the mid 30s across the far south-west, including for Birdsville. Across the east coast, temperatures in the mid to high 20s. Brisbane, a sunny day. Top of 27 °C. 27 °C also up in Cairns with just a few showers pushing onto the coast there.
Now moving down to New South Wales. We could see some damaging winds about the Snowy Mountains before dawn, gradually easing, and we will see showers picking up into the afternoon across the Northern Tablelands and also through southern inland areas. Really only expecting about a millimetre or so in those parts.
Otherwise, those gusty west-north-westerly winds continue pushing maximum temperatures up to eight degrees above the September average. So warm down the coast, reaching the mid to high 20s. 27 °C and sunny in Sydney. Canberra, 21 °C but cloud increasing and a possible late shower there.
Now to Victoria. We’ll again see some damaging winds possible about the north-eastern Ranges, most likely before dawn, and we will see a few showers continuing over southern and also eastern areas as that cold front continues to move away. Brighter areas developing into the afternoon.
But then we will see showers really intensifying across the north-eastern Ranges as that cold front approaches at night. A few showers also building across the west with north-westerly winds continuing. Rainfall totals up to about one millimetre or so. We could see up to 10 millimetres across the far north-east of Victoria. Otherwise, looking like a fairly mild day.
Melbourne, 17 °C. A slight chance of a shower, most likely in the morning. Up into the low 20s in the north-west, including Mildura, with a slight chance of a shower through there. Now to Tasmania.
We will see just a few patchy showers clearing away during the morning, but they’ll pick up again across the west of the state. Ahead of that next cold front. So, see showers building in the west. 5 to 15 mm is possible, but only up to about one millimetre is possible across many parts of the state.
And northerly winds will strengthen, that we may be issuing a Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds covering the Wednesday night period and overnight into Thursday. Otherwise, for Hobart, a cloudy day, slight chance of a shower late in the day, 16 °C and a couple of showers. Temperatures reaching 14 or 15 °C elsewhere across the state.
Now, of course, of South Australia. A few showers across southern areas. They’ll gradually clear across the Eyre Peninsula and further north, but they will stick around along the coast, including around the Kangaroo Island area and with those west-to-south-westerly winds coming through. Temperatures a little bit cooler than the last few days, so generally reaching the mid to high teens but very hot.
Continues continuing across the north of the state before that cool change arrives. For Adelaide, we’re expecting a possible morning shower and a dry afternoon to follow. 17 °C and lots of 16 °C, 17 °C, 18 °C and 19 °C across the rest of the state.
Now across to the west, to Western Australia. With that trough, we’ll see just a few showers about the southern coastline. There they’ll gradually move up towards Perth, reaching Perth around the afternoon and into the evening. We’re not expecting any big falls and they won’t make it into the Wheatbelt at all.
By the evening, we will see those showers contract away to the southern and also to the Esperance coast, but south-westerly winds, it will be a cooler day, 19 °C in Perth, showers in the afternoon. Warmer up in the Pilbara and Gascoyne, reaching the high 20s to low to mid 30s again there. Finally, across northern Australia, we will see showers continuing across the Top End coast, also building across the east coast and also down towards the Gulf Coast into the afternoon.
Otherwise, looking like a dry and warm day, reaching the low 30s for Alice and also to southern parts of the Northern Territory and reaching the mid to high 30s across parts of the Kimberley. Darwin. We are expecting a sunny day, a little bit of cloud, top of 33 °C for you there. That’s your forecast for today.
