New playground and facilities give facelift to popular Perth dam

  • Upgrades improve access to facilities at Serpentine Dam
  • New nature-themed playground at picnic area to draw more visitors

Visitors to one of Perth’s most popular dam recreation areas, Serpentine Dam, can now enjoy a new nature-based playground and improved facilities, thanks to an upgrade by Water Corporation.

The $2.5 million project’s centrepiece is a new nature-themed playground drawing inspiration from the surrounding environment.

The upgrade also features new picnic tables, accessible toilet facilities and additional parking adjacent to popular local caf, Bistro By the Dam.

It follows a similar upgrade at Churchman Brook Dam near Armadale in 2022, which included a new playground, grassed picnic area, toilets and barbecues, to enhance visitor experience.

Recreation facilities, such as picnic tables, barbecue areas, walk trails and lookouts, are available at 12 Water Corporation dams across Western Australia, including nine in the Darling Range.

“July to November is wildflower season, so we’re coming into a great time of year to see the beautiful native wildflowers and try out the new facilities.

“Water Corporation does a fantastic job of opening its dams to the public, so we can all enjoy these beautiful areas.”

As stated by Darling Range MLA Hugh Jones:

“This new playground will be a draw for visitors and locals alike, giving families more opportunities to enjoy and explore this beautiful part of Darling Range.
