Two new Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR) trucks worth a combined $1.9 million will strengthen response capabilities at one of the state’s newest fire stations in Moreton Bay.
A 9000-litre Urban Water Tanker (UTank) and a Type 3 Urban Pumper will be officially handed over to the newly established Queensland Fire Department (QFD) at the Moreton Bay Central QFR Station today.
The $1.1 million Type 3 Urban Pumper is one of QFR’s most common fire trucks, with a water tank capacity of 1500 litres, supported by a 4500 litres per minute water pump with a foam injection system.
The new 9000 litre UTank, boasts features such as an onboard Compressed Air Foam System to provide more efficient use of water, a removable bumper monitor, and a 3000-litre portable dam.
The UTank’s state-of-the-art cabin halo system sprays water around the truck if firefighters are threatened by a burn over, ensuring firefighter safety remains a priority.
The two new appliances provide a welcome boost to the $6 million Moreton Bay Central Fire and Rescue Station, which officially opened in February.
The station is strategically located close to the Bruce Highway and complements the capability of the neighbouring Petrie and Burpengary Fire and Rescue stations.
As stated by the Minister for Fire and Disaster Recovery Nikki Boyd:
“Moreton Bay is a rapidly growing region, and these new appliances, combined with our new strategically positioned Fire and Rescue Station, will further assist our firefighters in responding to fires and other emergencies.
“Queensland Fire and Rescue firefighters are highly skilled, and this investment helps them continue to do their jobs as safely and effectively as possible.
“This delivery is just one example of the Queensland Government’s ongoing commitment to supporting firefighters and their lifesaving work.
“These trucks represent yet another significant investment in the newly established Queensland Fire Department, which includes an uplift right across Queensland.
“The Miles Government’s 2024-25 budget also comprises $37.3 million for work on new, replacement and existing QFR stations and $13.1 million to continue the delivery of new or upgraded RFSQ brigade stations and facilities, all part of an overall $1.1 billion commitment to QFD.”
As stated by QFD Commissioner Steve Smith:
“The delivery of two new high-quality trucks provides a welcome boost for our firefighters.
“The Type 3 truck will help firefighters as they respond to a range of incidents including structure fires, road crash rescue and hazardous materials while the UTank can serve as a whole-of-region resource to assist both QFR and RFSQ in responding to large fires.
“Firefighters are committed to delivering the high standard of service their communities rely on, and these appliances will help them maintain that standard.
“This funding ensures we can continue to meet the needs of growing communities as we enter a new era as the Queensland Fire Department.
“Moreton Bay Central Fire and Rescue Station has already seen hundreds of callouts for a number of incident types, chiefly road traffic crashes and structure fires.”

“This is a fantastic investment from the Miles Government, providing two important fleet additions to the Moreton Bay region’s firefighters.
“Crews at Moreton Bay Central responded to more than 750 incidents in the 2023-24 financial year.
“Of those incidents, more than 20 percent were related to traffic crash incidents, and more than 17 percent were structure fires.
“Having these new appliances will assist our local firefighters in responding to the needs of our community.”
