Victorian Greens spokesperson for transport Sam Hibbins, says the massive cost and environmental destruction caused by the North East Link shows that building another mega toll road will trash Melbourne’s liveability.
Reports today state dozens of homes and more than 100 businesses will be lost to make way for the massive toll road, which will reach 20 lanes wide at some point. Mr Hibbins says public transport in Melbourne could be transformed if the money was spent on the Melbourne Metro 2 Rail Project.
As stated by Sam Hibbins MP
“The $16 billion price tag of the North East Link mega toll road could deliver a second Melbourne Metro rail tunnel, bringing high capacity, frequent trains to the North, West and inner city.
“Labor’s multi-billion dollar mega toll road will lock in congestion, wreck the local environment and come at the cost of a modern, high speed public transport network.”
