NSW police charge man with assault and firearm offences

A man has appeared in court charged with a number of firearm and assault offences in Sydney’s south earlier this year.

Detectives from Sutherland Shire Police Area Command commenced an investigation under Strike Force Kiewarra after a 26-year-old man was allegedly stabbed on Glencoe Street, Sutherland, on Friday 28 February 2020.

During the investigation, detectives also commenced inquiries into three public place shootings at Lucas Heights on Sunday 29 March 2020, Bexley on the same date and at a unit complex at Caringbah on Wednesday 1 April 2020.

As part of ongoing inquiries, a 29-year-old man was charged in April. He remains before the courts.

Following further inquiries, police executed a search warrant at a unit on Glencoe Street, Sutherland, about 8.15am today (Wednesday 3 June 2020).

A 30-year-old man was arrested and taken to Sutherland Police station where he was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possess shortened firearm without authority, discharge firearm with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and acquire firearm subject to a prohibition order.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Sutherland Local Court today, where he was formally refused bail to re-appear at the same court on Thursday 30 July 2020.
