Officer Charged – Specialist Command 20 June

A police officer has been charged following an investigation into an alleged assault in Coogee earlier this year.

About 12am Sunday 14 April police were called to Coogee Bay Road, Coogee, following reports of an assault.

Officers attached to Eastern Beaches Police Area Command arrived and were told a 31-year-old off duty police officer had allegedly punched a 26-year-old man as he exited a taxi before throwing the younger man’s phone damaging it.

Police attempted to arrest the 31-year-old, who is a Senior Constable, however he allegedly fled from officers leading to a short foot pursuit.

He was arrested and taken to Maroubra Police Station where he was released.

The 31-year-old was later charged with common assault and resist police officer in execution of duty on Monday 20 May 2024.

He was issued a future court attendance notice to appear before Waverley Local Court on Wednesday 10 July 2024.

His employment status is currently under review.
