A man will appear in court today charged by Organised Crime Squad detectives over his alleged involvement in the international importation of drugs from Canada.
In June 2024, State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad – with assistance from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and the Canadian Border Services Agency – launched an investigation into the international trafficking of methamphetamine into NSW.
Following extensive investigations, detectives identified an international package of candles containing 10kg of methamphetamine addressed for a Hoxton Park home on Tuesday (2 July 2024).
As part of investigations, detectives – with assistance from South West Metropolitan Operation Support Group – executed a search warrant yesterday (Wednesday 3 July 2024), on the Hoxton Park home.
During the search detectives located and seized the international package, heroin, MDMA and electronic devices.
Detectives arrested a 28-year-old man at the home before taking him to Liverpool Police Station.
He was charged with two counts of supply prohibited drug commercial quantity and possess commercial quantity of border-controlled drug unlawful import.
The 28-year-old was refused bail by detectives to appear before Liverpool Local Court today (Thursday 4 July 2024).
Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Weinstein APM, Director of the Criminal Organisations Directorate, wants to thank Canadian authorities for their cooperation during the investigation.
“International cooperation between law enforcement agencies at all levels is vital when tackling modern organised crime, “Det Ch Supt Weinstein said.
“I want to acknowledge the Canadian authorities for their exceptional professionalism and assistance during this investigation,”
“The NSW Police Force will continue to work with all International and domestic partners to arrest and charge those criminals who think they can penetrate our borders with the only intent to harm our communities.” Det Ch Supt Weinstein said.
Detective Superintendent Peter Faux, Commander of State Crime Command’s Organised Crime Squad, said keep these drugs off the street is our number one priority.
“Thanks to the cooperation of Canadian police we have not only been able to stop a significant number of illicit drugs from entering our communities, but also stop further drugs from entering this country.
“As investigations continue, we hope to work further with our international partners to tackle drug importation in this state.” Det Supt Faux said.
