Pedestrian dies after crash – Lake Illawarra Police District

A pedestrian has died following a crash in the state’s Lake Illawarra region.

About 10.40pm yesterday (Sunday 19 May 2024), emergency services were called to the Princes Highway, Yallah, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.

On arrival, officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District were told a car had crashed into a concrete barrier before the driver – a 29-year-old man – exited his vehicle; he was then struck by another car and died at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle – a 54-year-old man – was not injured. He has been taken to Shellharbour Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

The M1 Motorway southbound remains closed with diversions of southbound traffic onto the Princes Highway through Albion Park Rail. It is expected to remain closed for a few hours; please monitor https://livetraffic.com for updates.
