Police Charge Five After Theft And Evade In Werribee

Westgate Divisional Response Unit officers have arrested and charged five people after an alleged theft from a Werribee store, an evade in a stolen car and collision with a police vehicle this morning.

Police will allege a silver Toyota Hilux was stolen from Jacana this morning. The vehicle was allegedly driven to a shopping centre at the intersection of Heaths and Derrimut roads about 10.20am.

It is alleged four males entered a retail store and stole numerous clothing items. A staff member confronted one of the males who allegedly revealed an edged weapon under his clothing before running away.

A security guard also confronted one of the males who allegedly showed an edged weapon underneath his clothing before fleeing.

The five males allegedly drove away in the stolen Hilux before it was spotted by police in Point Cook about 10.35am.

It is alleged three males fled from the car on foot and were arrested by police after a short foot chase.

The two remaining males allegedly drove away and struck an unmarked police car causing minor damage.

Police successfully deployed stop-sticks on Old Geelong Road. The vehicle allegedly continued along the Princes Freeway inbound, where it’s alleged the Hilux collided with a marked police car before the pair were arrested.

No-one was injured during the collision.

An 18-year-old Maidstone youth was charged with theft of motor vehicle, theft, dangerous driving whilst being pursued, conduct endangering serious injury, armed with criminal intent, possess controlled weapon and other traffic offences.

He was bailed to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 8 October.

A 19-year-old Deer Park youth was charged with theft of motor vehicle, theft, armed with criminal intent and possess controlled weapon.

He was bailed to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 8 October.

An 18-year-old Williams Landing youth was charged with theft of motor vehicle and theft.

He was bailed to appear at Werribee Magistrates’ Court on 8 October.

A 17-year-old Jacana boy was charged with theft of motor vehicle, theft, assault with a weapon and unlawful assault.

He has been summonsed to attend a children’s court at a later date.

A 17-year-old Mill Park boy was charged with theft of motor vehicle and theft.

He has been summonsed to attend a children’s court at a later date.
