Police Charge Man Over Armed Robbery – South Tamworth

A teen will appear in court today following an alleged armed robbery at a service station in the New England area overnight.

About 12.40am (Monday 24 June 2024), police were told an 18-year-old male entered the service station on Goonoo Goonoo Road at South Tamworth and selected several items of food.

When he placed the items on the counter, he allegedly produced a knife from his pants and threatened the attendant.

A second male then entered the store stealing items of food from the displays.

Both males then left the store, only for the 18-year-old to return a short time later to allegedly steal other items, before leaving the service station.

The attendant was shaken but not hurt during the incidents.

The matter was reported to officers from Oxley Police District, who established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the robbery.

A short time later, police found the 18-year-old man behind a fence in a nearby property.

He was arrested and taken to Tamworth Police Station where he was charged with robbery armed with offensive weapon and breach of bail.

He was refused bail to appear at Tamworth Local Court later today (Monday 24 June 2024).

Inquiries into the whereabouts of the second male continue.
