Police Charge Men Over Sporting Game Assault – Glebe

Two men have been charged after an alleged assault at a sporting game in Glebe earlier this week.

About 7.30pm on Monday (27 May 2024), emergency services were called to Wentworth Park Oval, Wentworth Park Road, Glebe, following reports of an assault.

On arrival, officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command were told two teams were playing an Oztag game when a 38-year-old man was allegedly punched by two other male players, then kicked.

The two men left the scene before police arrived.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the 38-year-old man before he was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition with facial injuries.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident commenced.

Following inquires, officers executed a search warrant at a home on Bay Street, Glebe today (Wednesday 29 May 2024), and arrested a 25-year-old man.

Shortly after, a second search warrant was executed at a home on Gibbons Street, Redfern where a 23-year-old man was arrested.

The older man was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with reckless grievous bodily harm – in company and affray.

The younger man was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with reckless grievous bodily harm – in company, affray and stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm.

The 25-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court today.

The 23-year-old man was refused bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court tomorrow (Thursday 30 May 2024).
